VOLUNTEER GROW
The Volunteer Revolution has begun!

There is a mindset that has permeated Christianity for centuries which has greatly hindered the effectiveness of the church. The concept of a "clergy" and a "laity" perpetuates a faulty idea that the pastor and church staff (clergy) do all the ministry and the congregation (laity) receive all the ministry. This way of thinking is neither Biblical nor Apostolic. Furthermore, this paradigm severely handicaps the incredible potential that a local church has to impact its community and world by utilizing the gifts and talents of all its members.

Our "Volunteer Revolution" describes a shift in the way we think about ministry. It is a revolt against an erroneous mindset that has hindered the growth of God's Church. It is the adopting of the true Biblical understanding that ministry is done by all of us! The Bible clearly teaches that we are all ministers. We have all been saved for a purpose. We have all been saved to serve. We also find our greatest fulfillment as Christians when we are serving, not being served. Furthermore, we will never feel complete as a Christian until we discover and embrace the ministry God has for us to do.

The vision our church has received from God is too big to be accomplished by only a handful of people. To fulfill our purpose, we must get every member of FAC involved in ministry. Right now, there are a variety of ministry areas where we need volunteers. A sense of urgency compels us to enlist all our members in the work God has given to our church. We are in great need of a "Volunteer Revolution" - a shift in our thinking that results in everyone volunteering their time and talents - everyone jumping in with both feet and serving in God's Kingdom.

Our Volunteer Revolution begins this Sunday with a Ministry Fair after the morning service. The purpose of our Ministry Fair is to highlight all of the areas of ministry where we have a need for volunteers. I will be preaching a message on Sunday morning about the importance and value of serving. After the service, you are encouraged to visit different tables in the multi-purpose room, each of which will be highlighting one of the ministries at FAC. At each table you will find detailed information about areas within that ministry where you can get involved. You will also be able to speak with someone at each table who can answer any questions you may have. There will be a sign-up sheet at each table where you can sign up for any areas where you have an interest in serving. Information about training events for each ministry will also be available at the tables.

I'm certain this Sunday's Ministry Fair will help connect our members' interests and gifts to immediate volunteer ministry opportunities. Pray with us this week that Sunday's message and the Ministry Fair after the service will both ignite a "revolution" in the way we think about and participate in ministry at FAC.
